Moving to Switzerland

For EU citizens it is very easy to move to Switzerland. Look for a job first. Then for a flat. As soon as you have found both, you can already pack your bags and move to Switzerland. As soon as you have arrived here, you need to register at your place of residency and obtain a work and residence permit. Then you need to take out a health insurance, take out all other necessary insurances, open up a bank account and select a mobile network provider. When this is all done, you’re almost a Swiss.

If you change your place of residence to Switzerland, you have to declare your relocation goods. This is quite simple. The only requirement is that you have been using the items for the last 6 months yourself and will continue to do so. Therefore, buy your new furniture AFTER you have moved. The same rule applies for imported vehicles. When you enter the country, you have to show a list of all items you are bringing with you. Therefore it is recommended to write a list when you are packing your goods. Also, you should be carrying your Swiss rental contract and your work contract at customs in order to prove your place of residency change. Also, it is recommended to cross the border during the office times of the customs office.
